Lyrics

From Places Where I Dream
Wild
Did you know when you were younger
Trying to understand
What it meant when they said child
You’re behaving out of hand?
Were you free to dream and wonder
Imagination child
Could you fly through rain and thunder
And chase the fire down?
Wild Wild Wild
Was it dark when you were dreaming
Asleep in childhood’s bed?
Nightwinds blowing softly breathing
It blew inside your head
Sycamore and weeping willow
They held you in their arms
Down below the cerebellum
You felt it in your heart
Wild Wild Wild
They did not know how they shut down your soul
Now it’s harder to know just how to begin
Walk down your road and you let go of more
Of the stuff that won’t let you cross over again
Cross over again
We were very different then
Open possibilities
Something happened we grew up
To responsibilities
Was it time that made you tame,
Did our changes start to freeze?
Do you yearn for where you came,
When we slept beneath the trees?
Wild Wild Wild
High Vibe Ride
As a girl I used to travel
Put out my thumb and hitch a ride
Never knew what my life would take me thru
I only hoped I’d be alright
Pray to the spirits, take me to safety
I’ll play harmonica
And see the country while I’m
Waitin’ for some high vibe ride
Waitin’ for some high vibe ride
Feel it in the wind, callin’
I’m waiting for some high vibe ride
So many days left me wantin’
A sense of peace or love or home
Still I couldn’t stop the travel if I tried
This free spirit was all alone
Pray to the spirits, take me to friendship
I’ll cook for everyone
And tell my stories while I’m
Waitin’ for some high vibe ride
Waitin’ for some high vibe ride
Feel it in the wind, callin’
I’m waitin’ for some high vibe ride
Oh, it’s easy to feel lonely
Don’t have to travel to be lost
Some moonless nights only darkness was my friend
But hope is soft like clinging moss
Pray to the spirits, take me to love
Down by the sycamore
I won’t forget you but I’m
Waitin’ for some high vibe ride
Waitin’ for some high vibe ride
Feel it in the wind, callin’
Waitin’ for some high vibe ride.
Remember
A warm breeze through the curtain blows
Gentle on my skin
This Indian Summer is calling me in
I watch you from the doorway so fine
And so free
The scent of your sweat mixed
With sweet prairie breeze
Remember
We met at your sister’s
I was only seventeen
The call of your wildness was all I would need
A piece of your spirit
Got caught up in mine and twines
‘Round my memory
Like leaves on the vine
Remember
Lives cross and pass
Like two birds in the blue
Still this wild country
Reminds me of you
In moonlight, don’t forget
In this life, don’t forget
Remember
I wooed you for the feeling
Never wanted someone before
The touch through our clothing
Sleeping on the floor
Yeah, back in those old days
When nothing lasted long
Desire booked the passage that carried us along.
Remember
Lives cross and pass
Like two birds in the blue
Still this wild country
Reminds me of you
In moonlight, don’t forget
In this life, don’t forget
Remember
Danger In The Garden
Yellow Butterfly, fly so free
You may not see the net that takes you down
Daddy Longlegs too, they may find you
And pull your legs to watch the suffering
When I was just a little girl I thought that I would
Rule the world
A gallant thought that slowly rode away
A perfect world, a gentle path, a day where we all sing and laugh
A time to fly away
But there is danger in the garden, danger in the garden
Mama, warn your sons and daughters ‘bout that danger
Yeah, danger in the garden, danger in the garden
Mama, warn your sons and daughters ‘bout that, danger in the garden
Woman with a view, I found a way
The sun would guide me, since you wouldn’t say
Changin’ with the moon, the nights were long
But I grew stronger
And I was alone
There is a power in this soul I worked so hard to find again
I knew it when I was a girl but I forgot it for a while
A perfect world, a gentle path, a day where we all sing and laugh
A time to fly away
But there is danger in the garden, danger in the garden
Mama, warn your sons and daughters ‘bout that danger
Yeah, danger in the garden, danger in the garden
Mama, warn your sons and daughters ‘bout that danger in the garden
There is a power in this soul I worked so hard to find again
I knew it when I was a girl but I forgot it for a while
A perfect world, a gentle path, a day where we all sing and laugh
A time to fly away
But there is danger in the garden, danger in the garden
Mama, warn your sons and daughters ‘bout that danger
Yeah, danger in the garden, danger in the garden
Mama, warn your sons and daughters ‘bout that danger in the garden
Places Where I Dream
Full moon on the water
Showin’ off the pines
Hold me ‘til the morning
Love me ‘til I shine
Pebbles in the shallow
Shimmer like a pearl
Water rushin’ over
Unconstrained and pure
These dreams I’m having. These quiet dreams
Asleep I’m living in places where I dream to be
Cool breeze in the evening
Music on the porch
All I ever wanted
Everything and more
I touch you on the covers
Just to know you’re there
Weight and warmth and body
Calms me down to rest
These dreams I’m having. These quiet dreams
Asleep I’m living in places where I dream to be
City full of sights and sounds, where I cannot hear my own voice
Anything you could ever want, ‘cept for maybe a little less noise
And you better hurry so you don’t look lost
Darlin’ have you lately
Rested in the pines?
And did you hear the big wind
Blowin’ through last night?
Well, I can feel the changes
Like weather comin’ thru
Time will push the river
And we’ll all be carried too
These dreams I’m having. These quiet dreams
Asleep I’m living in places where I dream to be
About Bridget
Mother and baby were downtown
I saw ‘em walking my way
She looked so tired and rundown
But her eyes had something to say
She walked up and asked me to help her
I knew this world had treated her cold
Beggin’ for mercy and holding an angel
And the question that lingers when
I think of that stranger
Will they rise from it someday?
She had no ring on her finger
Her boy was tiny and scared
They couldn’t stay in the shelter
No place for babies in there
We both knew she’d have to keep pushin’
Not to be buried by the weight of the world
That little boy was her pride and glory
And the question that lingers when
I think of that stranger
Will they rise from it someday?
Doesn’t anybody care anymore?
Poor, poor, poor
Doesn’t anybody care anymore about Bridget?
Well I’m a wife and a mother
My babies sleep warm at night
Nobody waitin’ on welfare
No Daddies leave in the night
But I know the job can get lonely
And I know how much it all takes
But never once have we hungered
And the question that lingers when I think of that stranger
Will they rise from it someday?
Doesn’t anybody care anymore?
Poor, poor, poor
Doesn’t anybody care anymore about Bridget?
Dakota Sweat
Downright real, those feelings we had
Down by the frozen lake
Sky the color of steel, a sweat lodge
made of rocks and sage
We’d come to pray
I got past the point of no return
Down by the frozen lake
Heart beating fast, like winds across the open plains
I was blown away, blown away
What was it that drove the message in?
The winter fire or ancient history ghosts?
Prayers to both the earth and the four winds
Learn to love what touches you the most
Dakota, Dakota sweat...Dakota, Dakota sweat
I felt high surrounded by a hut so dark
We couldn’t see
And one by one, a pile of stones kept red with fire
Were splashed for steam
Heaven and Earth came alive for me
I felt the faith beneath the trees
The moon above was beaming soulfully
As it shone down on the frozen lake
Dakota, Dakota sweat...Dakota, Dakota sweat
Sally
Sally I think of you
Friends forever
From a time when language was new
Babies when I met you
But even then darlin’
Even then I knew I’d protect you
So many years pass by and gather
Like fallen leaves
Some days just scatter past
You hold the memories
You rake ‘em up under trees
Yeah you gather those memories
For me
Forever young, girls with flyin’ manes
There’d be no one who could catch us
Or pull in our reins
Alive and free
We grew up strong
And rode our phantom stallions
Across Nebraska lawns
So many years pass by and gather
Like fallen leaves
Some days just scatter past
You hold the memories
You rake ‘em up under trees
Yeah you gather those memories
For me
Lovers and families and long goodbyes
Life’s surprises
You never shut your eyes
God gives us daughters and takes ‘em too
The strongest love shows up to
Pull you through
Sally I think of you
Friends forever
From a time when language was new
Glacier & Blue
Mystical attraction up the road ahead
Sight of rock and mountain
Takes our breath away
Spirits free
We stop to view the scene
They meet and rise
Red mountains to crystal skies
Jagged fit
Complement
Glacier & Blue
Physical attraction by that shimmer lake
Feel the satisfaction of your sound embrace
Holding me
We’re grounded like the trees
And side by side
Together but not alike
Jagged fit
Complement
Glacier & Blue
I am surprised
Out on a road trip
Come back realized
Your smile and your touch
No mountain or meadow could hold in my love
They meet and rise
Red mountains to crystal skies
Jagged fit
Complement
Glacier & Blue
Lessons to Learn
My baby child
Strong like the sun
I raise you kind
And I teach you not to hurt no one
Piece of my heart
Soft like a breeze
I watch you grow
And I wonder ‘bout the sights we see
Yeah the sights we see
The lessons you learn
Yeah, there’s a whole other side you don’t know
Well a lot of this world’s pretty sad
And I get afraid of the dark myself
But I’ll try to keep you safe from anything bad
My shining star
So much ahead
You go on now and lay your troubles
On your little bed
Yeah, there’s a whole other side you don’t know
Well a lot of this world’s pretty sad
And I get afraid of the dark myself
But I’ll try to keep you safe from anything bad
I’ll do my best
To understand
How some can love and others live
With clenching hands
Yeah, with clenching hands
The lessons you learn
Misty
Look at me
I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree
And I feel like I'm clinging to a cloud
I can't understand,
I get misty, just holding your hand
Walk my way
And a thousand violins begin to play
Or it might be the sound of your hello
That music I hear
I get misty the moment you're near
You can say that you're leading me on
But it's just what I want you to do
Don't you notice how hopelessly I'm lost
That's why I'm following you
On my own
Would I wander through this wonderland alone
Never knowing my right foot from my left
My hat from my glove
I'm misty and too much in love
Just misty. And I'm too much in love
